September in Christina’s Math Class was enjoyable. We started out by using Math to get to know each other. We made our nametags on graphing paper, found the area and perimeter of each letter, and colored it. We used Math equations to say something about ourselves in “Figure Me Out” posters. For example, “25÷5= my grade level.” We also shared summer souvenirs with the class.
Then we were given challenging worksheets to complete. They woke up our Math skills especially if they slept a bit during the summer. We had to solve problems from everyday life like the one on combining discs with different weights on a 45 pound bar, the one on making combinations to equal eight wheels, or the one on figuring out which deal is better for an allowance for twelve weeks. The work made us practice multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division. Additionally, we watched a video to help us review what we know about place value. We also learned interesting number patterns such as the spiral and Fibonacci patterns.
Finally, Christina told us about “Class Dojo”. This is where she keeps track of our class behavior. She gives points for class participation, being on task and much more. Are you excited about grade five Math? I am!
